Includes Central Processing Units (CPUs), mice, keyboards, cables and other components within the computer.

PERIPHERALS

Includes both wired and wireless manual input devices such as keyboards and/or pointing devices such as mice and trackballs.

PORTABLE

Includes portable computers such as notebook, laptop, netbook and tablet personal computers.

DESKTOP PRINTER

This includes printing devices that are designed to reside on a work surface, and includes various printing technologies.

DISPLAY DEVICES

Any display device for displaying images from
computers and/or televisions, including professional
displays. 

A/V SYSTEMS

Includes portable devices primarily for personal use including docking speakers; portable stereos/tape players/radios; personal CD players

VEHICLE SYSTEMS

Includes amplifiers, equalizers, speakers and in-dash audio/video components.

THEATRE SYSTEMS

Includes pre-packaged disc player/speaker/amplifier systems for use with any type of video or television display to create a home theatre experience.

HOME A/V SYSTEMS

Includes VCRs and DVD players; mini/mid/full size package systems; single/multi CD players; clock radios; digital cable equipment; satellite cable equipment; speakers.

NON-CELLULAR TEL

Includes wired and cordless telephones, and telephone answering machines.

Countertop Appliances

Includes countertop microwave ovens, coffee makers, kettles, espresso machines, toasters, toaster ovens, air fryers, hot plates, bread makers.

Air-Treatment

Includes plug-in portable fans, tower fans, air purifiers, portable heaters, humidifiers.Not included: Air conditioners and dehumidifiers.

Personal Care

Includes hair dryers, hair straighteners and curling irons, electric toothbrushes, shavers, hair clippers and trimmers, facial-care devices, and electric massagers.

Floor or Carpet Care

Includes floor vacuums, carpet cleaners, robotic vacuums, handheld vacuums, and stick vacuums.

Measurement Devices

Includes alarm clocks, wall clocks, timers, bathroom scales, food scales, and digital luggage scales.

Includes electric irons, garment steamers, clothes shavers, and portable heated towel racks with a plug.

HOW ELECTRONICS RECYCLING WORKS

Giving Electronics a Responsible Second Life

Electronic devices contain valuable materials that can be recovered and reused through responsible recycling. By bringing your approved electronics to Bluenose Bottle Exchange, you help keep harmful materials out of landfills while supporting environmental sustainability across Nova Scotia.

Accepted electronics are collected and processed through approved recycling programs where components such as metals, plastics, circuit boards, and wiring are recovered and reused in the manufacturing of new products whenever possible.

APPLIANCES CONTAINING REFRIGERANT

Bluenose Bottle Exchange does not accept appliances containing refrigerant, sometimes called Freon or CFCs.

This includes:

Eligible HRM residents can call 311 or submit an online request to arrange free residential refrigerant removal. The appliance must be placed upright, outdoors, and in an accessible location before the scheduled appointment.

After the refrigerant has been safely removed, an approval sticker will be attached to the appliance. It may then be placed curbside on the appropriate regular garbage collection day.
