Bluenose Bottle Exchange accepts more than bottles and metals. You can also bring approved light bulbs, flexible plastics, foam packaging, and empty aerosol containers to help keep reusable materials out of landfills.

Please ensure all plastics and foam items are empty, rinsed, and dry, and that aerosol containers are completely empty before drop-off. Together, we can reduce waste and support a cleaner community.

HOW LIGHT BULB RECYCLING WORKS

Give Burnt-Out Bulbs a Brighter Next Step

Used light bulbs should be handled and recycled responsibly rather than placed in regular garbage. Bluenose Bottle Exchange accepts a variety of approved bulbs, helping recover reusable materials and keep potentially harmful components out of Nova Scotia’s landfills.

We accept compact fluorescent lights, fluorescent tubes, LED bulbs, halogen and incandescent bulbs, UV and germicidal bulbs, miniature bulbs, and HID or specialty bulbs. Please transport bulbs carefully and avoid bringing broken or damaged products.

Residential customers may return up to 16 bulbs or tubes per visit. Limits may vary, and customers with larger quantities should contact us before arriving. Ballasts and light fixtures are not accepted.

HOW TO PREPARE SPECIALTY RECYCLING ITEMS

Prepare Your Materials Before Drop-Off

Proper preparation keeps materials clean and ready for recycling. Separate all items by type before bringing them to Bluenose Bottle Exchange.

Flexible Plastics
Coffee pouches, chip bags, candy wrappers, and cereal liner bags must be empty, rinsed, dry, and placed together in a clear bag.

Foam Packaging
Take-out containers, foam packaging, beverage cups, and meat trays must be free of food, rinsed, and completely dry.

Aerosol Containers
Cooking spray, hairspray, air freshener, shaving cream, and deodorant containers must be completely empty.

Please Note: Keep each material type separate. Glass packaging and cardboard are also accepted at this location.
